Ambassador A.T.M. Rokebul Haque


 

Mr. A.T.M. Rokebul Haque has assumed the responsibilities as the Ambassador of Bangladesh to the Italian Republic in Rome on 02 October 2024. He is a career diplomat and has extensive experience in Multilateral, Regional and Bilateral diplomacy. 

 

Mr. Haque is also concurrently accredited to Serbia and Montenegro with residence in Rome. He is Permanent Representative to the Rome based UN Agencies i.e. Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and World Food Programme (WFP).

 

Prior to joining as Ambassador in Rome, he served as Director General and Head of South Asia Wing in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He represented Bangladesh in numerous meetings and led Bangladesh delegations in many negotiations and meetings. 

 

In his diplomatic career he had served in various positions, including Deputy High Commissioner in New Delhi, India and Minister at the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations in New York. He also served in Bangladesh Missions in The Hague and Islamabad. 

 

In the United Nations, Mr. Haque covered key portfolios such as gender equality, human rights, and social issues including health, youth, and children issues. He successfully chaired and facilitated the adoption of Bangladesh’s signature resolution “Culture of Peace.” He was the election officer during his stint in the Permanent Mission. He used to cover OPCW, ICC and ICJ during his stay in The Hague.

 

 

At the Ministry, Mr. Haque served in different capacities in number of wings like Administration, South Asia and Americas. He was Director to the Foreign Secretary’s Office (FSO).

 


Mr. Haque obtained Bachelor and Masters in Economics from University of Dhaka, Bangladesh and he attended a number of diplomatic trainings in different countries. He has few articles to his credit and gave lectures at various institutions as resource person.
